New Song

"Hey, it’s Bart Millard from MercyMe, and I want to share the story behind our new song, "Make It Well. The idea came to me after singing the hymn "It Is Well with My Soul," a song I’ve sung at many funerals. It’s always during really tragic times, and I realised that in those moments, when I sing “It is well with my soul,” I’m kind of lying—because honestly, it often isn’t well with my soul. The harder the times get, the harder it is to sing that song."

"So I kept thinking: if I were to write something new, I’d call it Make It Well, because I can’t get through life’s struggles without the help of the Holy Spirit. There are people in the middle of their own struggles who know how hard it is to sing that everything is okay when it really isn’t. This song is for those people—people like me—just trying to get by in the middle of the struggle."
